Depression. Deep Rest. Takeoff 🛫 & Landing 🛬

Let’s talk Depression. Or “Deep Rest” as Jim Carrey (through Jeff Foster) once said:

"We can choose to view depression not as a mental illness but as a state of “Deep Rest,” a spiritual exhaustion that we enter into when we are de-pressed (pressed down) by the weight of the false self, the mask, the mind-made story of “me.”

And as I like to view it: That I’m this airplane that’s in the air most of the time, but that needs to come down to the ground from time to time to refuel. Then I’m ready to take off again.

My two biggest takeaways last year were: Gratitude & Acceptance

Gratitude

I am grateful for my down periods when I am in a state of Deep Rest. Even though they sometimes almost killed me, they have also been some of my most prominent teachers in life.

Acceptance

My number one breakthrough last year with my depressions was that I finally came to an acceptance with it. Instead of fighting it, trying to resist it, wave it off, I learned how to accept it. It’s part of my life, part of my DNA. It’s times when I do some deep inner-work with myself, and even though I know that I often suffer at the moment, I come out so much wiser afterward. 🙏🏽

I will evolve this into detail in an upcoming blog post, which will serve as the follow-up post from last year when I opened up about my Suicidal Depression.
