Today, It's Been 500 Days Without Alcohol
And damn, it feels good! This has been involuntary, and what I mean by that is that I didn't set a goal to achieve this. It just happened. Before that, I only drank on special occasions, and it was at most 2-3 glasses. I stopped drinking heavily around 2018 (except for a few occasions where it was more).
I even started to dislike that initial buzz you get from the first glasses, which used to be the best.
Will I ever drink again? Maybe. I haven't set a "never drink again" for the rest of my life. It's just that alcohol doesn't serve me shit, it's pure garbage for my body.
Some reflections I've made:
Why does alcohol almost always have to be the center point when there's a get-together?!
As the podcaster Chris Williamson said: "Alcohol is the only drug that people think there is something wrong with you if you don't do it."
And talking about get-togethers and gatherings, let's put up two scenarios.
Scenario 1, the typical: Going away with your boys, whether it's a bachelor weekend or just a trip with the homies. Drinking alcohol like it's the cure for immortality. The gateway to Nirvana.
Add-ons: Drugs and strippers.
Net losses: You come home feeling worse than a rotten trash can. A massive hole in your wallet. Anxiety through the roof. The body feels like you're about to die. Taking several days to recover to normal function.
Scenario 2, imagine this instead: Going away with your boys, whether it's a bachelor weekend or just a trip with the homies. Prioritizing your health, deprioritizing alcohol and the phone, having epic adventures and amazing conversations where you get to know your homies even deeper.
Which one of the two scenarios will have a greater lasting impact?
Now, some of you will still continue doing the 1st scenario, and that's fine. I'm not judging you. Instead, you should ask yourself: Why? Why am I doing this? Am I trying to escape or numb something?
I want to change this with Bro Retreats. Create more meaningful and impactful gatherings.
Are you planning a bachelor getaway? Or a reunion with your homies? Then let me help you. It's time to level up. Getting shit-faced with memory blackouts is so 2008. ✌🏽
